School 1 - Kalika Malika School, Nagre Gagarche VDC9, Kavre district -

Donated by - DCWC Nepal with cash assistance from Phillipa Dalglish-Reid

Kalika Malika School was opened on 30th April 2006 and was the first school completed solely with funds raised in the UK. A sizable donation was made by Phillipa Dalglish-Reid and we though it appropriate that this should be recognised on the plaque of our first school opening. The school was opened by a group who had done our Everest base camp trek in 2006. Once they had returned from the mountains they made the 9 hour journey, 5 hours by 4-wheel drive and 4 hours walking to reach the village.

Donated by - DCWC Nepal with cash assistance from Phil Hanson

Tama Khani School was opened on 13th April 2007. Trustee Phil Hanson had decided after a visit the previous year to Nepal that he would like to raise some funds himself to build a school. Phil contributed around half the funding of this school and was recognised with the naming on the plaque. The school was opened by a group had come to Nepal to do a charity Tibet trip and short trek in the Everest region. This trip was a particularly long one, having set out from Kathmandu at 6.00am the group only arrived at the village at 5.00pm. This was the first project being filmed by documentary maker Jason Graham from Cozmic TV.

School 3 - Batuk Bhairab School, Bimphedi VDC4, Makwanpur district -

Donated by - Dave Jennings & UAP

Batuk Bhairab School was opened on 7th May 2007. This was the first school built by Bury based door hardware company UAP. Company owner Dave Jennings had attended one of our auctions the previous November and liked what he saw. After being impressed with our presentation Dave made an incredible offer to build a series of 5 UAP schools over the next few years. The school was opened by the DCWC Nepal Everest base camp trek 2007 group and in particular Sean Wilson (Martin Platt of Coronation street fame). Sean had joined the trip as part of the documentary being filmed by Jason Graham, which was also receiving considerable funding from Dave Jennings and UAP.

School 4 - Chaurikhola School, Nagre Gagarche VDC, Kavre district -

Donated by - Dave Jennings & UAP

Chaurikhola School was opened on 30th August 2007. This was the second school built by Bury based door hardware company UAP. After completing the first UAP school they were keen to get the next one underway as soon as possible. The site for our fourth school had the rare opportunity in Nepal of having enough space for a football pitch. With Dave being a keen football fan we hatched the plan to have as part of the school opening, a football competition and a health camp. we were very fortunate to secure the services of Brian Kilcline as part of the DCWC football team and Brian made a fine contribution to the documentary which continued to be filmed there. The school was opened by Ben Jennings, son of company owner Dave Jennings.

School 8 - Seti Devi Primary school, Sanubangthal VDC, Kavre district -

Donated by - Tim Kane memorial fund

Seti Devi Primary School was opened on 3rd October 2008. Whilst travelling in Tibet in 2007 I was told of the tragic news of the death of Tim Kane. I'd come to know Tim well over the previous year and he'd shown a keen interest in helping the charity with 2 trips planned to Nepal. Tim was killed whilst out cycling by a passing motorist. The funding for the school was raised from the funeral fund. We were very fortunate to have a Simon Booth, a cousin of Tims, go out to Nepal to open the school.
