DCWC Nepal Personnel profiles

The Patron of our charity is Actor Sean Wilson, known to many for his 21-year role in Coronation Street as Martin Platt, To us he is known as our good friend Sean who has brought a higher profile to the charity and become an active and invaluable member of the team.

Seans first involvement with DCWC Nepal came as a result of a project to make a six month documentary following the charities activities over two separate visits to Nepal. We were looking for a familiar face to front the project, and due to a connection to Sean with one of our trustees; he became a natural candidate for the job. We approached Sean in early 2007 to come along to Nepal to take a trek to Everest base camp and to open a school in a remote region of Nepal. Almost without hesitation he accepted the role.

Seans professionalism in front of the camera was plain for all to see and his genuine interest in the people and culture of Nepal made filming with him a pleasure.
He more than acquitted himself admirably in the mountains and had no problems reaching our goals of Everest base camp and Kala Pataar. Seans enthusiasm and good nature spread amongst the rest of the group and had a major impact on achieving a near 100% success rate amongst the trekkers reaching the summit.

It was on our return to Kathmandu, and the long and tiresome journey to the remote village of Bimphedi, that we got to see the compassionate side of Sean. We were there to open a school and to distribute clothes to the children of the village. Sean needed no prompting as he naturally worked his way amongst the them giving each and every one of them due care and attention. They may not have known who he was but he made it one of the happiest days of their lives children of the village of Bimphedi.

Seans role with DCWC Nepal wasn’t to end on our return to the UK. It had become apparent he was happy to get involved and play a part in trying to further the success of the Charity. At a function in the summer of 2007 we decided to acknowledge our gratitude for the work he had done by offering him the Patronage of DCWC Nepal. Sean gladly accepted and from that day to this he has played a hands on role in the day to day running of the charity as well as being a familiar figure head in promoting the charity.

We would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of all the trustees of DCWC Nepal, both in UK and in Nepal, to thank Sean for all he has done and look forward to working along side him in the future to help better the lives of the poor peoples of Nepal.
